Kill Your Clone!

“One's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes. In the long run, we shape our lives, and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And, the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

Humans are very biased and tribal creatures. We all have ideas engrained inside our brain to the point that it is embedded within the bedrock of our DNA. Every little habit is a micro identity of our accumulated soul. The net sum of these identities equates to where we are today in all aspects of our lives. This must be why the statistic that if you include all diets and weight loss strategies extended over a three-year period have a 90-95% failure rate. This is a very intimidating statistic, but I believe success leaves clues and studying the top 5-10% is a crucial step to helping yourself achieve and maintain success. The idea for the title comes from a conversation about actor Ethan Suplee on Diary of a CEO where they talk about how he went from a person that weighed over 500 lbs. and is now 220 lbs. and looks like an action hero [18:00.] Suplee released a ‘X’ [tweet] stating that, “He killed his clone in the gym today.” When the 5-10% successful people who maintained the weight loss were studied they found that most had reported the need to change their identity. They had to deprogram their DNA and fix their micro habits/identities and create a new persona.

Another great human trait is our ability to overthink change. We allow fear of the unknown to creep in and use procrastination as a safety net to not address the darkness that is required to develop the necessary change. Taking action is the pathway to create the change we authentically desire. Suplee’s response to this was, “If the house is on fire... Simply get out of the house.” It does not matter if you are going to start with low carb, vegan or keto, but you just need to start! Many people think that the pathway to optimized health is buying a sauna and cold plunge, but the truth always comes back to action and consistency. "A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week." - General Patton. The pathway to optimized health is freeing up time to dedicate to health and then start doing the obvious healthy things. The longer the period of time that you continue to execute this plan the more exceptional you become.

We are an accumulation of previous versions of ourselves. Each day we can move forward and change [progress] or we can give into a previous version. Without a reason you will not have your ‘why’ to change. The more intrinsic the reason the greater chance you will commit to the change. You do not have to be morbidly obese to desire progress. Universal progress is about optimizing health. Changing who you are today to be a better version of yourself is going to take a strategy that will put you above 95% of your peers. Daily you will need to stab your clone in the face and become the hero you want to be. Consistently grinding former versions of yourself to nonexistence.

At first you might feel like an imposter trying to embody this upgraded version of yourself. This is why it is imperative to be consistent in taking action and stacking wins daily. After a certain period, you will have so many wins stacked on top of each other that it will be undeniable of who you have become.
